Job Duties
The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service
to management and employeesthat reflects the business objectives of the university. The
Human Resources Specialist for Recruitment and Hiring maintains an effective level of
businessliteracy about the unit level operations, their personnel needs, talent development
and acquisition and organizational structures.
1. Develops, facilitates, and leads the phases of the recruitment process; including, but
not limited: to maintaining job descriptions, preparing, and placing job postings, screening applicants, scheduling and conducting interviews, conducting reference and background checks, making verbal offers of employment, preparing written offer letters and orienting new employees including completion of new hire paperwork.
2. Collaborates with the other HR Personnel and university administrators during the recruitment and offer processes and other functions such as identifying and recommending salary ranges, start dates, and other pertinent details.
3. Monitors and ensures adherenceto recruitment and selection policies, procedures,
and protocols.
4. Process regular reporting and ad-hoc reporting.
5. Prepare, organize, and lead New Hire Orientation and other HR specific Collegewide training as appropriate.
6. Processes annual faculty contracts including updates to spreadsheets, adhering to timelines, mail merging contracts, following up with deans, and with applicants, new hire paperwork and orientation.
7. Collaborate with the Payroll Department to assure accurate compensation information.
8. Maintains updated knowledgeof best practices, trends, regulatory and legal changes, and new technologies in recruitment, revising the recruiting manual and related policies and protocols as needed.
9. Cross-train in other HR functions and provide back-up for those functions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Considerable experience in human resources that includes experience in at least two of
the following: employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruiting and employment, grievance investigation and resolution, performance management, diversity and equal opportunity.
2. Working knowledge of Human Resources recruitment, benefits and compensation
practices, laws, and regulations.
3. Demonstrated strong analytical skills associated with recruitment, compensation,benefits and employee relations.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on building partnerships, managing conflict, negotiation, mediation, facilitation and communication.
5. Demonstrated ability to create a collaborative work environment, work as a team member and maintain confidentiality while keeping open communications atall levels of the university.
6. Demonstrated ability to analyze work related problems, assess needs and design and
implement solutions that support organizational goals.
7. Demonstrated ability to recognize and connect the linkages and relationships between
functions and processes as well as the impact of decisions on people and the organization.
8. Demonstrated ability to establish and management multiple priorities in a changing and
fast paced environment.
9. Skilled in the use of HR Software and systems, including RMS, PMIS, BES, VNAV.
10. Proficiency in, or can quickly learn the use of spreadsheet, automated employment,
presentation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Considerations
1. Experience working in human resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
2. Experience working in a college or university environment.
3. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional
(SHRM-SCP) credential. Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). PHR or SPHR.
4. Masters Degree in Human Resources
