River Church is a dynamic, growing, inter-generational congregation with an emphasis on the new generation of young families, children, youth and young adults. While celebrating nearly 180 years of continuous gospel ministry, River Church is nevertheless effectively impacting communities locally and globally in this ever-changing 21st century. The church facility is situated within the communities where the beauty of the river, forest and friendly neighbours are increasingly welcoming newcomers from across Canada, as well as other countries of origin.
The Associate Pastor will be a highly motivated leader who enjoys connecting with people and helping them take their next steps at River Church. The ethos of this role is moving people from first-time guests to full participation in and through the church. He will help people connect in three primary ways: to each other, to ministry and to the church. The ideal candidate has at least 3-5 years of ministry experience, with a track record of connecting people with people, recruiting and equipping leaders. He is known to be effective at delegating work and ministry tasks and developing systems to do so. Preferred formal education is to be at the Bachelor of Biblical Studies/Theology level, minimally. The candidate will share in pastoral care ministries, along with preaching and teaching responsibilities, as mutually arranged with the Lead Pastor. The Associate Pastor is a highly visible and welcoming presence at the public gatherings of River Church, with a strong work ethic and emotional intelligence with a skill and gift for remembering people, listening, understanding and connecting people with each other. Continual numerical growth of the church shall require flexibility as we address ministry to and through youth and young adults. Our heartbeat is to raise up a new generation of families passionately serving Christ. Therefore, the Associate Pastor is to have an evangelistic heart.
The Associate Pastor shall continue to personally nurture a lifestyle reflective of a follower of Jesus Christ. They shall concur with the statement of faith and ministry plan of River Church. As one concrete indicator of commitment, they shall share in the financial support of the ministries of the church.
This position is accountable to and receives spiritual guidance and mentorship from the Lead Pastor. Salary will be determined based upon experience and education. Housing will be a part of the financial arrangement in the form of a parsonage located on the church property. Additional benefits, i.e. vacation days, will be discussed during the interview process. Expected commitment is a minimum of 40 hours of service per week, including Sundays and evenings.
