Short Description
The Graduate Nurse (GN) is a professional care-giver who, as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and who supervises and provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process including the therapeutic use of self.
The GN holds a temporary emergency RN license and shall be eligible to work only under supervision in an acute care facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health. Such supervision may be in the form of a preceptor relationship.
Follows established policies and procedures.
Communicates openly with internal customers and supervisors.
Provides excellent customer service interfacing well with all levels of staff, management
and physicians.
Applies Cooper core values. Other duties as required.
The following tasks will not be performed by the GN:
• Procedures not signed off by the RN preceptor or Clinical Educator that requires competency.
• Direct or supervise other healthcare staff.
• Make assignments for other staff.
Overview
Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges.
Kelemen 8 can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room.
There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family.
Education Requirements
• Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing
License/Certification Requirements
• Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers)
