General Job Description
The Health Assistant is responsible for meeting the health needs of the students and staff in the elementary school under the direction of the PED licensed registered nurse.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities
• Collect and report data regarding health status of students
• Implement aspects of the nursing plan of care, commensurate with training and verified competency under the direction and supervision of a licensed registered nurse
• Assist with the maintenance of student health records, including immunization records and share relevant information with the licensed registered nurse
• Maintain confidentiality of student, parent and staff medical information
• Share responsibility for the care of inventory facilities, equipment and supplies
• Maintain a clean, organized and orderly health room environment
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, co-workers and supervisor
• Display a desire to work with students and respond to student as individuals
• Serve as a healthy role model for students, families and staff
• Maintain competency through training and in-service educational activities
• Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the principal
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED, 18 years of age, hold a current CPR certification, be eligible for New Mexico Public Education Department license as a health assistant and complete a NMDOH and PED training for school health assistants.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Computer and copy machine skills.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by school board.
