Deputy Chief Operating Officer - South

Care Home: Head Office (Responsible for homes in the South)

Hours per week: 40

Salary: 75k per annum plus car allowance

About The Role

The Deputy Chief Operating Officer plays a crucial role in the operational leadership and management of the company's portfolio of 38 care homes in the South. This position involves working closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to ensure that the organisation's high standards of care, compliance, and operational efficiency are maintained across all facilities. The Deputy COO will drive operational strategy, lead performance management, and ensure that care homes operate smoothly while delivering exceptional resident care.

Key Responsibilities
• Operational Leadership:
• Support the COO in overseeing the day-to-day operations of all care homes in the South.
• Ensure that each care home meets Runwood Homes standards for quality care, resident experience, and operational efficiency.
• Regularly review operational KPIs such as occupancy rates, staffing levels, care quality metrics, and financial performance, and provide feedback to the COO.
• Drive consistency in care home performance by implementing best practices, policies, and procedures across the organisation.
• Care Quality and Compliance:
• Ensure all care facilities meet or exceed regulatory requirements from bodies such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
• Lead initiatives to maintain and improve care standards across all homes, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
• Conduct audits and quality assurance checks, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
• Oversee safeguarding processes, ensuring the safety and dignity of residents are always prioritised.
• Financial and Resource Management:
• Assist in the financial management of care homes, ensuring budgets are adhered to and financial performance aligns with organisational goals.
• Work with home managers to optimise resource allocation, including staffing, procurement, and facilities management, while maintaining high standards of care.
• Monitor financial performance indicators such as occupancy levels, income streams, and cost controls, and make recommendations for improvements.
• Leadership and Team Development:
• Provide leadership and support to regional managers, home managers, and their teams, ensuring alignment with our mission and objectives.
• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous development through mentoring, coaching, and leadership training programs.
• Promote a positive working environment that encourages staff retention, development, and engagement across the care homes.
• Support succession planning and talent development initiatives to ensure leadership continuity within the care homes.
• Strategic Planning and Execution:
• Collaborate with the COO and senior management team to develop and implement long-term operational strategies for Runwood Homes.
• Identify and drive initiatives to enhance service offerings, improve efficiency, and strengthen growth within the care homes portfolio.
• Participate in strategic discussions regarding expansion, acquisitions, or improvements to existing care facilities, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
• Stakeholder Management:
• Act as a key liaison between care home managers and senior leadership, ensuring clear communication and alignment on operational goals.
• Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, healthcare providers, and local authorities, to ensure compliance and promote a positive reputation.
• Represent Runwood Homes in industry forums, conferences, and external meetings to enhance the organisation's profile.
• Risk Management and Crisis Response:
• Develop and implement risk management frameworks to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff.
• Lead crisis management responses, including pandemic response strategies, health and safety incidents, and other operational emergencies.
• Ensure that all homes have effective contingency plans in place for unforeseen events, such as natural disasters or major health outbreaks.

The Deputy COO will demonstrate a commitment toensuring the highest quality of care and enhancing the overall resident experience at every home.You will have the abilityto drive performance improvements, ensure compliance, and enhance efficiency across multiple locations, contributing to long-term strategic planning and successfully implement operational initiatives.The successful Deputy COO will haveexperience handling operational challenges and leading effective crisis responses.
