Purpose of the post
Under the guidance of the Child Protection Specialist, responsible for the implementation of care and support activities including HBC, community mobilization for PMTCT, care and support.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of this post include:
- Contributes towards the implementation of the Protection, adolescents and HIV/AIDS program, responsible for managing Care and Support activities including HBC and PMTCT (social components) by providing technical and programming support. Mobilizes communities to provide basic social protection, human rights, schooling, skill training, housing, and care and support services. Provides support for increasing and strengthening community care rather than institutional care for children in affected households; foster links between HIV/AIDS prevention activities and efforts to support vulnerable children and adolescents; enhances the role of faith-based organizations and traditional groups for providing care and support and building community networks; and identifies intervention strategies and delivering care to orphaned children;
- Undertakes ongoing visits to UNICEF project sites, assesses local conditions and resources and monitors UNICEF inputs. Communicates with local counterparts authorities on project feasibility and effectiveness including the flow of supply and non-supply assistance;
- Undertakes follow-up action on programme implementation activities and prepare relevant reports. Order supplies and coordinates with the operations/ Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability. Certifies disbursement of funds, monitors and submits financial status report to supervisor as required. Evaluates and analyzes financial and supply reports to ensure appropriateness of documentation, expenditures is with in allotments, data is consistent with PIDB. Reports to Supervisor and /or Head Office outcome to review;
- Attends technical cooperation meetings, prepares notes and undertakes follow-up actions related to program implementation including donor and media visits;
- Provides assistance with Caring for US initiative working with other HIV/AIDS program staff and trained peer educators at UNICEF and within UN at –large. Selects and compiles training and orientation materials for those involved in programme implementation including donor and media visits;
- Assists in the preparation of country programme recommendations by drafting CPSS, PSS and other relevant documentation ensuring accuracy and consistency with established rules and regulations. Maintains computerized progranmme system and submits relevant reports. Drafts relevant sections of reports (required for donors, management, annual reports, etc.
