SUMMARY
The Production Unit Manager will oversee and coordinate activities within their assigned production unit(s) in an efficient manner to achieve optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes by product specifications, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) and quality standards. The individual ensures that company policies and guidelines are accurately interpreted and implemented. Monitors process, quality and quantity of production to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly targets are achieved.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensures production goals are met within the assigned production unit(s) to meet production unit goals and deadlines.
  2. Manage daily production unit meetings (Problem Solving Management). Ensure that all HSE, quality, and production problems are resolved during production unit meetings and address results vs. KPI’s with cross-functional departments.
  3. Responsible for directing and managing Production Group Supervisors and other department employees as needed; provide the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to ensure success in their job.
  4. Develop a vision, strategy, and key objectives in line with the Company’s goals and have the leadership skills to “lead by example” in executing these key objectives.
  5. Ensure assignments, tasks, and concerns affecting product quality are completed on time or notify supervision when they cannot be.
  6. Provide insightful leadership that generally creates positive morale.
  7. Assign machines and manpower to meet production schedules and provide on-time delivery to customers.
  8. Manage manufacturing to meet deadlines and production goals.
  9. Manage production to meet monthly budgets.
  10. Organize process data using tools such as 8D, 5S, Kaizen, Lean, Six-Sigma (DMAIC), VSM, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to reduce process variation and improve quality and throughput.
  11. Responsible for preventive maintenance and machine uptime.
  12. Devise Departmental Action Plans that support achievement of the Company’s and Department’s long-term goals and objectives.
  13. Assign and schedule work to production employees, including supervisors and manufacturing engineering.
  14. Observe equipment usage and employee quality of work and take corrective action when necessary.
  15. Monitor tools, material, quality, and production.
  16. Drive corrective actions and confirm full cycle of problem-solving and prevention.
  17. Organize and maintain high standards of performance, quality, and customer service for the production unit.
  18. Responsible for implementing company policies and guidelines as prescribed by management.
  19. Implement and maintain training for job-related functions.
  20. Interview, evaluate, hire, train, motivate, supervise and discipline all personnel under direct supervision.
  21. Perform personnel functions; coach for improved performance, identify/develop high potential employees, conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary action and recommend compensation increases within company guidelines.
  22. Ensure compliance with Federal, Local and State government, and LISI Aerospace policies, procedures and plans for all personnel under their responsibility.
  23. Ensure all employees attend training and adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans.
  24. Seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Manufacturing Supervisors and other directly assigned staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university required in related field (Mechanical Engineering preferred) with a minimum of 7 years management experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Proven ability to lead effectively in a diverse environment.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Certification and/or experience in 8D, 5S, Kaizen, Lean, Six-Sigma (DMAIC), VSM, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  5. Knowledge of manufacturing methods, operation management, process improvement, and industrialization.
  6. Experience managing projects/action plans.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of database software; internet software; and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint).

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
