BACKGROUND

Truist Financial Corporation, Quail Hollow Club and the PGA TOUR have announced a seven-year agreement for Truist to become the title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Charlotte, North Carolina, event — renamed the Truist Championship. The event will now be under the purview of the PGA TOUR’s Championship Management division.

Quail Hollow Club will continue to be the primary host facility for the event, with the exception being 2025 due to the club hosting the PGA Championship for the second time. The Vice President & Executive Director will begin preparation for the 2026 event immediately.

One of eight Signature Events on the PGA TOUR schedule featuring the TOUR’s top players and FedExCup points (700 points to the winner), the tournament has raised more than $30 million for charitable organizations over its history.

SUMMARY

The Vice President & Executive Director is the lead executive of the Truist Championship and has overall responsibility for delivering a world class experience for players, fans, partners, volunteers and all tournament constituents. The VP & Executive Director will lead a team that will develop and execute a plan to increase tournament net revenue, player prize money, charity, and reserve levels through best-in-class sales and marketing strategies. The VP & Executive Director will increase onsite hospitality sales, increase attendance and community activation, and ensure excellence in all operational aspects of the tournament.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and execute long term strategic plans to grow revenue and evolve the event to engage a broader range of people and sponsors;
  2. Provide oversight of departmental operations, staffing, P&L results and both internal and external communication;
  3. Establish and monitor metrics that drive business strategy and performance;
  4. In cooperation with the sales staff, develop and implement an annual sales plan for all product and sponsorship categories; The Executive Director is responsible for generating all event revenues above the title sponsorship, including presenting sponsors and preferred suppliers;
  5. Build strong relationships and serve as the executive interface with the volunteers, club members, community, media, PGA TOUR, Title Sponsor, players, agents and others as needed;
  6. Enhance field strength and elevate image of the tournament;
  7. Serves as executive interface with Title Sponsor, the PGA TOUR and all other strategic partners to ensure a collaborative working relationship, fulfillment and transparency of contractual obligations and to ensure that all partners are receiving value as a result of the partnership;
  8. Use varied influence strategies to persuade all stakeholders and groups to grow the event;
  9. Become firmly engaged in the community, participating in and presenting to high-profile community events (media appearances/rotary speeches/charity events) and serving on various boards;
  10. Interface with community leaders to foster the overall impression of the event in the community;
  11. Lead the team to deliver a successful event against all objectives set by the PGA TOUR;
  12. Motivate, coach, and hold others accountable for performance to maximize business results;
  13. Develop a comprehensive volunteer structure;
  14. Develop and implement an effective operating committee structure for planning, preparing for and executing the tournament with appropriate committee chairs, vice chairs, and other committee members;
  15. Develop and encourage staff to pursue new tasks and challenges related to overall departmental goals and objectives;
  16. Contribute to departmental operations, including staffing, budget management/ cost containment, and internal communication;
  17. Special projects or other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Sports Management or equivalent discipline is required; Master's Degree preferred;
  2. Minimum of 15 years’ experience running a major sports event, or equivalent experience in business;
  3. Minimum 5 years' management experience;
  4. Understanding, appreciation, and respect for the game of golf;
  5. Strong sales/marketing aptitude as well as the ability to effectively manage/motivate a sales team;
  6. Strong time management and business communication skills;
  7. Able to safely operate a utility vehicle such as, but not limited to, golf carts, utility carts, and shuttle carts.
