Female Personal Care Assistant required, part time, up to 20 hours per week £16.50 per hour, Islington N7 (ref AF/EB2)
We are looking for someone respectful, compassionate, and understanding to support a chronically ill young woman with daily living and organising her health regime.
This lovely young woman is a 25 year old with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a connective tissue disorder that affects the whole body. Her EDS causes daily physical pain, neurological issues and insomnia. She is an intelligent, funny and creative young woman, who is passionate about film and writing, but just requires some additional support to care for herself and access the medical support she requires.
She requires a carer for the following purposes:
To cook for her
To clean her flat and keeping it mold free
To support with managing medication
To support with budgeting and managing her finances
To support with running errands
To support engaging with healthy habits to manage her condition e.g. physiotherapy
To organise and coordinate appointments with medical professionals
To accompany her to appointments To support with navigating statutory services
To support developing independent living skills
Where needed, assisting with cleaning herself
Where possible, to support with fundraising for innovative treatments abroad by undertaking administrative tasks
The support would predominantly be located at her flat in North London, although travel to accompany her to appointments will be required (the cost of this will be covered).
Applicants must:
Have experience working with clients with complex health problems.
Be able to physically lift, bend, stretch and pull a person.
Be able to communicate via email and over the phone to a high standard.
Be able to cook and clean. Have very strong organisational skills (Personal Assistant or Secretarial experience is a plus)
Be able to keep detailed records and notes regarding individual's day to day care
Be able to take initiative and develop routines and improvements to the care environment without much direction
Having knowledge of statutory and community services that can offer additional support preferred
Having a valid driver’s license and be able to drive preferred
Ability to obtain an enhanced DBS (employer paid).
Be respectful and interested to learn about her specific disability and needs.
Respect her autonomy, independence, and dignity.
Maintain the highest level of confidentiality
Maintain standard precautions, including health precautions to avoid exposing her to illness.
Ability to commute/relocate:
London: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Salary: £16.50 per hour
