Healthcare Support Workers provide essential support to clinical staff and assist in the care and comfort of patients. They work under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, performing a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of healthcare facilities and the wellbeing of patients.
*Key Responsibilities:*
1. *Patient Care:*
- Assist patients with daily activities, including bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
- Support patients in maintaining personal hygiene and comfort.
2. *Clinical Support:*
- Assist with medical procedures and treatments as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Prepare and maintain patient beds, rooms, and equipment.
- Help in the collection and transportation of specimens for medical tests.
3. *Communication and Documentation:*
- Accurately document patient information, observations, and care provided.
- Report changes in patient conditions promptly to the nursing staff.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
4. *Mobility and Transport:*
- Assist in the safe transportation of patients within the facility.
- Help patients with mobility, using aids such as wheelchairs and walking frames.
- Support patients in transferring from beds to chairs and vice versa.
5. *Support Services:*
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in patient areas.
- Ensure that supplies and equipment are readily available and in good condition.
- Assist in restocking and organizing medical supplies and equipment.
6. *Patient Advocacy:*
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
- Respect patient confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Promote patient independence and encourage participation in their own care.
*Qualifications:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in healthcare support work or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is desirable.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
