The Maternity Support Worker provides essential support to midwives and maternity healthcare professionals in delivering care to expectant mothers, new mothers, and their babies. This role involves assisting with clinical tasks, providing emotional support, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients.

Key Responsibilities

- *Patient Care:*

- Assist midwives with prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care.

- Support mothers with breastfeeding and infant care, providing guidance and encouragement.

- Help with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and toileting for new mothers.

- *Clinical Assistance:*

- Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.

- Assist with monitoring vital signs and recording observations.

- Support midwives during labor and delivery, including setting up delivery rooms and assisting with procedures.

- *Emotional and Social Support:*

- Provide reassurance and emotional support to mothers and their families.

- Facilitate communication between mothers and healthcare professionals.

- Encourage and support mothers in bonding with their babies.

- *Educational Support:*

- Educate mothers on postnatal care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care.

- Provide information on available resources and support services.

- Assist with antenatal and parenting classes as required.

- *Administrative Duties:*

- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

- Assist with scheduling appointments and coordinating care plans.

- Handle routine administrative tasks to support the efficient operation of the maternity unit.

### Qualifications

- *Education:*

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Completion of a recognized maternity support worker training program is preferred.

- *Experience:*

- Previous experience in a healthcare or maternity setting is advantageous.

- Experience with infant care and support is beneficial.

- *Skills:*

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.

- Good organizational and time-management abilities.

- *Certifications:*

- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

- Additional certifications as required by the specific healthcare facility.

Working Conditions

- *Physical Requirements:*

- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and assisting patients with mobility.

- Stamina to work long shifts and handle physically demanding tasks.

- Capacity to handle exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.

- *Schedule:*

- May include day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

- Flexibility to work varying hours based on patient and unit needs.
