The Ambulance Care Assistant provides non-emergency patient transport services, ensuring the safe and comfortable transfer of patients to and from healthcare facilities. This role involves assisting patients with mobility, ensuring their well-being during transport, and maintaining the ambulance equipment and environment.
Key Responsibilities
- *Patient Transport:*
- Transport patients to and from hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities.
- Assist patients with getting in and out of the ambulance, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Use appropriate lifting and handling techniques and equipment to aid patients with limited mobility.
- *Patient Care:*
- Monitor patients' condition during transport, providing basic care and support as needed.
- Communicate with patients to ensure they feel comfortable and reassured during the journey.
- Report any changes in patients' condition to healthcare professionals upon arrival.
- *Vehicle Maintenance:*
- Ensure the ambulance is clean, well-maintained, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Perform routine checks on the ambulance and its equipment, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and patient transport activities.
- *Administrative Duties:*
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation for each patient transport, including patient details and journey logs.
- Coordinate with dispatchers and healthcare facilities to plan and manage patient transport schedules.
- Assist with administrative tasks as required by the ambulance service.
- *Health and Safety:*
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control procedures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
- Participate in regular training and drills to stay updated on emergency response procedures.
### Qualifications
- *Education:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized ambulance care assistant training program is preferred.
- *Experience:*
- Previous experience in a healthcare or patient transport setting is advantageous.
- Experience with patient handling and transport equipment is beneficial.
