JOB TITLE: Medical Coder & BillerDEPARTMENT: Central Business OfficeLOCATION: Lafayette, LAJOB CATEGORY: Full-Time, Non-ExemptREPORTS TO: Director Business office (CBO)ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Review physician Op Notes, hospital visits, and procedures for coding accuracy• Enter charges accurately and expeditiously to ensure proper records handling and fast payment• Send in claims t...o insurance companies for reimbursement• Process and follow up on payer denials, consulting with the patient and/or his or her family as needed• Research and resolve client billing problems or issues• Document payment records and issues as they occur• Manage the status of accounts and balances and identify inconsistencies• Process refunds for insurance companies and patients• Answer patient’s questions regarding billing (rotational within department)• Review and verify accuracy of billing data• Read and code operative reports• Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies• Follow up on unpaid claims• Resolve billing issues and discrepancies• Maintain patient billing records• Utilize medical coding systems• Collaborate with medical staff to clarify diagnosis or obtain additional informationSKILLS:• Proficiency in medical billing, collections, and office procedures• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems• Familiarity with electronic health record systems• Strong attention to detail and accuracy• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills• Ability to work independently and as part of a team• Prior experience in medical records management is a plusQUALIFICATIONS:• At least two years’ experience working in physician practice billing, coding, and charge entry• Strong preference (although not required) will be given to certified coders• Ability to work in a physician practice billing office• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment• Knowledge of current CPT & ICD-10 coding terminology, billing rules and general electronic billing requirements for physician office, inpatient and outpatient charges
