General Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President and Chief Development Officer, the Development Officer, Capital Region is responsible for cultivating and growing relationships in the Greater Howard County region to benefit Sheppard Pratt. The Development Officer is tasked with developing individual, foundation, and corporate relationships by networking in the Capital Region, focusing primarily on the Howard County area; meeting with prospects and donors identified by Sheppard Pratt; and by uncovering new opportunities to highlight the depth and breadth of our services and offerings. The Development Officer is expected to carry a portfolio and work that portfolio, bringing in at least $500K in year one and at least $1M in years 2+. These goals will be re-evaluated annually.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
• Building Relationships
• Actively seeks to enhance Sheppard Pratt’s initiatives to meet the needs of patients, families, donors, trustees, staff, local businesses, government, communities, national organizations, and foundations.
• Promotes and maintains positive relationships with donors, staff, physicians, clinicians, and patient families.
• Focuses primarily on the Howard County region to identify and build relationships with prospective and current individuals, corporations and foundations who might benefit from learning more about Sheppard Pratt and who Sheppard Pratt would benefit from knowing.
• Raising Funds
• * Collaborates with the Vice President and Chief Development Officers to develop the strategy, business plans, and implementation of plans to develop and cultivate prospects and donors in the Howard County region for the benefit of Sheppard Pratt.
• Responsible for raising significant funds from the region for the benefit of Sheppard Pratt.
• Work in collaboration with colleagues on the development team and throughout the organization to ensure alignment with priorities and goals and areas of focus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Requires bachelor’s degree and 7 –10 years of non-profit fundraising experience, with an emphasis on major giving.
• Work requires knowledge of the Howard County funding community, fundraising theories, principals, concepts, techniques, program planning, and evaluation.
• Work requires problem solving and conceptual skills sufficient to make recommendations and implement fund raising strategies.
• Work requires strong oral and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of Sheppard Pratt employees, physicians, prospects, and donors, and the excitement and ability to speak knowledgeably and persuasively on behalf of Sheppard Pratt to potential donors and patient families.
• Work requires meeting deadlines, responding promptly to donor requests for information, and managing the demands of multiple projects.
• Work requires advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and the ability to learn to use Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.

• Primarily works remotely but is expected to come into the office for meetings. Will have office space available on site at the Baltimore Washington campus. Work requires frequent conversations with employees in person, phone, and telecommunication such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
• Work requires frequent use of a computer.
• Work requires automobile travel within the Howard County and Greater Baltimore area and surrounding areas in proximity to Sheppard Pratt locations (up to an estimated 10% of work time).
