Job Summary:

University Housing is looking for Cooks to join our team!

Join our group of food service staff made up of talented professionals dedicated to providing our residents, staff, and visitors with nutritious meals made from locally-sourced ingredients and produce.

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of food preparation activities and related tasks according to quality and safety standards in dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals.
• 40% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
• 15% Trains and guides student workers
• 15% Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
• 15% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
• 15% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures

Tasks:
• Demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service
• Interact with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens and food safety.
• Perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment.
• Perform food production to include batch cooking, cook-to-flow, and made-to-order display cooking.
• Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Education:

Preferred
H.S. Diploma

Qualifications:

Required - 1 year of food production experience in a professional kitchen setting.
Preferred - ServSafe Food Handler or Food Manager certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
Preferred - Over 1 year of institution-scale food service production experience in a professional kitchen setting.

License/Certification:

Preferred
ServSafe Certification
ServSafe Food Handler or Food Manager certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Work Schedule:

Schedules will be determined at time of offer.

The primary schedule for this position typically consists of 5, 8-hour shifts per week that may fall on any day of the week. Schedules may rotate every other weekend.

Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of the unit. As a result, work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours. Schedules will be determined at time of offer.

Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This is a full-time appointment. The starting hourly wage is $19.25 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.

English Proficiency Required - This position requires the ability to speak, read, and understand verbal instructions in English.
