Full Time Police Sergeant - Morton Borough Police Civil Service Examination
The Borough of Morton is now accepting applications for the position of Police Sergeant. Application forms will be available at the Morton Borough Hall, 500 Highland Ave, Morton, Pennsylvania, 19070, during the hours of 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, from August 15, 2024 through and including September 13, 2024. Applications must be returned to the Civil Service Commission, c/o the Borough Secretary, on or before 3:30PM on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Each applicant will be required to: 1. Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. 2. Be a United States citizen. 3. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. 4. Have successfully completed Act 120 Training, as certified by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission. 5. Have reached their 21st birthday by August 30, 2024. 6. Reside within a 40-mile radius of Morton within 6 months of completion of probationary period. 7. Be medically and physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position. 8. All applicants must successfully complete the required Act 57 background check and review of the MPOETC separation database. 9. Morton Borough will not hire family members of persons currently employed by Morton Borough. 10. Applicants shall have not been suspended by their employer without pay for more than five (5) days in the three (3) years prior to the deadline for submitting applications. 11. Internal Candidates - By the date of the test, an internal applicant for the position of Sergeant of Police shall have at least two (2) year of continuous service with the Morton Borough police department with at least eighteen (18) months of this service being in a full-time capacity or two (2) years of continuous full-time service with another state, agency, or municipal police department. 12. External Candidates - All external applicants shall have at least two (2) year of continuous full-time service with a state, agency, or municipal police department and shall have obtained at least a two-year degree from an accredited post-secondary school or the equivalent in accredited hours: including colleges, universities, and trade and vocational schools.
Each qualified applicant will be required to take a written examination to be held on October 12, 2024 starting at 9:00 AM at the Morton Borough Hall, 500 Highland Ave, Morton, Pennsylvania, 19070. No applicant will be admitted to the test site after 9:00 AM. Up to the top eight candidates passing the written test will be required to take an oral exam. Candidates will also be required to pass a background check to advance. Appointment will be contingent upon the candidate passing a medical exam, psychological exam, and polygraph test (if the successful candidate is external). Appointment will be for a full-time probationary Police Sergeant position. The non-refundable fee for the Civil Service Exam is $100. Morton Borough Civil Service Commission
