About the Department

SSE Energy Solutions is accelerating the transition to net zero by creating a more resilient and sustainable energy system through investing in, building, and connecting localised flexible infrastructure, using technology and data analytics to drive the long-term performance of energy assets – taking a Whole System approach to energy infrastructure.

Our infrastructure specialists construct a comprehensive portfolio of energy assets, incorporating advanced technologies; these include grid connected power networks, flexible generation & storage, EV charging, heat & cooling, and smart network solutions.

What is the Role?

The Business Development Manager is a key role, employed to drive forward our business relationships and solutions primarily with developers, investors, consultants, and principal contractors for new build industrial, commercial, and mixed-use developments. Working with internal stakeholders, experts and external partners, you will ensure our proposition is scoped and developed in line with our clients’ needs and our business strategy.

The role’s primary focus will be aligned to the design and build of new electricity network assets for adoption by our affiliated IDNO business, Optimal Power Networks (OPN). OPN has an ambitious growth trajectory in the expanding GB-wide IDNO market and is strongly committed to supporting the net zero energy transition by investing millions of pounds in networks that are fit for the future.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Origination, qualification and scoping new opportunities.

- Developing and maintaining key accounts and client relationships through a partnership approach.

Developing and managing a pipeline of opportunities across a wide client base, and with other key stakeholders across the eco-system of an opportunity.

- Manage bids for projects including project development, tender submissions, internal governance processes and contractual negotiation.

- Attending networking events as required and deliver speaker slots, both internally and externally to build brand awareness.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Proven track record with extensive relevant experience in the Regeneration, Development and/or Construction sector.

- Proven experience securing business with energy infrastructure in the industrial, commercial and mixed-use markets.

- A broad technical understanding of high and low voltage electricity networks, up to 132kV and IDNO electricity distribution networks.

- Highly experienced networker and relationship manager - connected and able to build and manage diverse relationships with a wide group of stakeholders.

- Experience of solution / consultative client engagement and building bespoke value propositions with customers across a complex range of technology and solutions.
