The Board is seeking a Works Supervisor to work in the water management and flood prevention sector. The ideal candidate will have experience of supervising and managing a small team along with working on multiple activities. We require a driven person, with an ability to prioritise both their own and the team's workload. In view of this they need to be highly organised and communicate clearly with contractors, customers, and colleagues.
The successful applicant will also be a team member participating with the workforce carrying out the Board's maintenance works on its maintained drainage ditches and pumping stations.,
• Staff management responsibilities as a line manager include supervising delegating and managing the day-to-day activities of the workforce (currently four). This progressing delivery of the agreed maintenance programme.
• Ensuring best working practice are being undertaken and works are productively delivered.
• Accountability for Health and Safety in the maintenance activities ensuring compliance with all aspects of Health and Safety on site. In particular carrying out non generic risk assessments when required.
• Coordinating the Boards sub-contractors to deliver the contract requirements. This requires coordinating the tasks being carried out and recording progress and signing it off when completed. Then in-turn monitoring and managing quality of the work and addressing issues as they occur.
• The Workforce Supervisor, where qualified, may also operate plant and equipment to deliver the Board's maintenance works. The Board being in favour of developing skills in this area if appropriate
• We are seeking someone with administrative skills to be able to record and report on the Board's activities. This includes completion of the Board's time sheets for submission on specific dates. This being important as these record the work carried out and include additional hours worked for payment of overtime.
• Meeting landowners and others to negotiate land entry and resolve issues when they arise. These sometimes occurring as a result of the Board's operations or land owners' expectations leading to disputes.
• Investigating reports received from land owners / members of the public and taking action if required.
• Accountability for procuring and hiring in appropriate materials, supplies and equipment to conduct the Board's maintenance works. This along with organising maintenance and repair of the Board's equipment.
• Assisting in the Boards team and contractors carrying out works for the Environment Agency, utilising your teams and appropriate sub-contractors' skills.
• Assisting in delivery of capital works on assets such as pumping stations and outfalls.
• Undertaking flood response duties if required, which may entail out of hours call out.
In all aspects of the above work the Field Work Supervisor, Engineering Assistant and the Clerk to the Board are available to provide assistance with any of the above responsibilities should any difficulties be encountered.
Provision
The Workforce Supervisor is provided with a pick-up truck for the purpose of conducting the Board's maintenance work. This vehicle is intended to be available for usage by the workforce as required for maintenance works., The Workforce Supervisor is the line manager for the Board's workforce, which currently consists of four members of staff. The staff's work consists of manual duties along with operating machinery.

• Willing to learn and develop new skills/knowledge.
• Full Driving Licence required.
• Knowledge of the local area would be advantageous., GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
The Ouse and Derwent Internal Drainage Board (IDB) is a Member of the York Consortium of Drainage Boards. The Boards primary function is to maintain a network of watercourses and pumping stations. This including water level management and works near or close to the I.D.B. watercourses within the districts of York & Selby.
Hours : 38 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 7.30am - 4.00pm and Friday 7.30am - 2.00pm
Salary : Competitive, depending on experience.
Vehicle : Appropriate vehicle supplied as part of the position available from the Boards Depot.
Holidays : 23 days plus Bank Holidays (plus 2 additional days as Directed by the Board)
