RWJBarnabas Health and the Division of Cardiology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) seek a Cardiologist with Critical Care Certification/Training to be the Medical Director of the Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCU). NBIMC is one of the nation’s largest heart transplant centers with mature Advanced Heart Failure, Shock, and Mechanical Circulatory Support Programs. This is a great opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team and lead all aspects of cardiac critical care in a quaternary level cardiovascular center.
This position will be embedded in the Division of Cardiology and will work closely with Heart Failure and Transplant, Interventional, and Structural Cardiologists. The ideal candidate will have the responsibility of overseeing the new Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCU) at NBIMC as its Medical Director. The candidate will work to standardize the care of patients in the CCU, setting programmatic goals and metrics for quality, safety, and efficiency, developing clinical protocols, implementing standards of practice, and will ultimately grow the Section of Cardiac Critical Care. The ideal candidate will be experienced in the multidisciplinary management of critical care patients, including pre and post heart transplant patients, those with temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support devices, and those with other conditions such as myocardial infarction, post-cardiac arrest, pulmonary embolism, and shock.
The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team that includes other Heart Failure and Transplant physicians, Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, and Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians. The candidate will have an academic track record and the desire and ability to educate and mentor students, residents, fellows, and staff. The new Medical Director of CCU will also be eager to implement new quality improvement initiatives and participate in clinical research.

• Board Certified in Cardiology and Certified/Eligible in Critical Care or additional training in Cardiology Intensive Care.
• Experience and or additional training in Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology in lieu of Critical Care training will be considered on an individual basis.
• New Jersey licensed or eligible for New Jersey licensure.
