About Tech for Good Institute

The Tech For Good Institute (TFGI) is a non-profit organization with a mission to raise understanding of issues and inform policy so that the promise of technology and the digital economy may be leveraged to advance inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth. TFGI serves as a platform for research, conversations and collaborations focused on SEA but connected to the rest of the world. ​​​​​​

TFGI is hiring an Institute Director to work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and the Advisory board, to execute the Institute’s mandate and drive day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities:
• Work with Executive Director to build TFGI's reputation for evidence-driven, balanced and policy relevant work that is best-in-class in terms of originality, significance and rigour
• Work with Executive Director to engage the TFGI Board, Advisors, stakeholders
• Manage TFGI’s administrative, governance and professional functions and steward TFGI’s budget prudently with overall P&L responsibility to ensure that the Institute is on track to deliver on financial and impact targets
• Lead research/thought leadership programmes end-to-end, from conceptualisation to evaluation
• Direct day-to-day operations to maintain pace and quality of work
• Manage and develop the TFGI team so that they deliver on their responsibilities and grow personally and professionally

Experience and knowledge:
• At least 8 years of experience with a mix of:
• Public / government affairs, in public policy / regulatory / strategic advisory roles
• Non-profit / advocacy leadership
• Thought leadership
• Strategic planning with track record of execution
• Ideally, experience conceptualising, designing, leading and executing research programmes (e.g. in universities, research institutions, government, private companies, consulting)
• Experience in leadership roles managing teams to deliver impact; ideally, experience managing geographically-dispersed teams
• Knowledge of and interest in technology policy issues, with the ability to identify broader social and business implications in issues
• Research interest, ideally with publication record on policy issues pertaining to the technology industry and its social and business implications
• Ideally, experience as a budget owner / manager and experience with managing a non-profit

Skills:
• Excellent in strategic planning, project management, and coordination; can independently take ownership of a problem and develop a clear strategy; proactive, resourceful, and flexible in approach
• Effectiveness in stakeholder engagement from working level to senior leadership, effectively representing TFGI, building partnerships, and development/fundraising.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in public speaking
• Demonstrated leadership with an open personality and a “can do” approach
• Ability to handle ambiguity and manage a wide range of activities within a fast-paced environment

This role requires willingness to travel across Southeast Asia regularly.

The Tech for Good Institute, founded by Grab, receives an annual base grant and essential services like IT systems and HR support from Grab to fulfill its mission. However, it operates autonomously with its own legal structure, Constitution, and Board of Directors, to whom the Executive team reports and seeks approvals. The Board provides oversight, accountability, and guidance, ensuring the Institute's long-term success. Additionally, an Advisory Board, comprising experts from various sectors, supports the Executive team with their diverse perspectives and experiences, enhancing the Institute's effectiveness in leveraging technology for social impact in Southeast Asia.
