This Opportunity

WSP USA is searching for an Associate Geologist for the Central Mississippi business area. The position is to be based in the Ridgeland, Mississippi office. This person will provide local technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compiling of environmental and geological data from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor). Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact
• Under general supervision, perform field work following WSP's training program, including subcontractor management, logging soil borings, overseeing groundwater monitoring well installations, and collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples, as well as documenting field activities
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
• Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
• Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.
• Set up field projects, including permitting; coordinating with staff, laboratories, and subcontractors; and obtaining necessary equipment
• Draft portions of reports documenting field and other efforts
• Assist the Project Manager and team in ensuring effective client and regulatory agency communication and relations
• Follow company safety standards, site safety standards and provides all required permitting
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout Mississippi
• Complete training on assigned tasks
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s
• Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline
• 1 to 3 years related work experience
• Willingness to work more than 8 hours per day when necessary for project success
• Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations
• Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record
• Must have a valid, current Driver’s License
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
• Ability to uphold workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
• BS degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or other related technical field
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
• Geologist in Training in the State of Mississippi
