The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Transformation Programme will fully integrate pathology services currently provided in each of the five NHS Trusts within our Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint from -
• Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT)
• Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTHFT)
• The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRHFT)
• Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT)

The post holder will act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidate will be required to participate on the 24/7 out of hours rota and undertake a wide range of complex analytical procedures, performing a range of manual, semi-automated and automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate results in line with ISO 15189.

Suitable candidates will require either Haematology experience post-registration and have ideally experience of working out of hours. Candidates must be in possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in either Haematology or Blood Sciences, or equivalent to be appointed at Band 6. However, registered candidates either working towards or aspiring to complete their specialist portfolio will be considered for appointment at band 5.

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network are invested in training, developing, and supporting staff in all aspects including academic courses from certificates of achievement, registration, specialist and higher specialist IBMS portfolios, apprenticeships and leadership and management qualifications.

The service across the network comprise of automated Blood Science departments on all sites, specialist haematology services including our Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service and Haemoglobinopathy services, specialist chemistry including Toxicology and Vitamin services, Paediatric and Newborn screening, and Point of Care.
