JOB SUMMARY: Assist in addressing, maintaining, and improving student health in grades K-12.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Organize, perform, and supervise state mandated health and wellness screenings for students.
• Provide care for students who are ill or injured, chart daily care and record all care provided.
• Maintain comprehensive health records on all students.
• Organize and assist the physician and dentist with state mandated physical exams, which also includes the physical examinations of athletes.
• Serve as a resource for classroom teachers and the community regarding health and wellness education, growth and maturity, personal hygiene, dental care, etc.
• Provide information and instruction on HIV or other health topics as required and/or mandated.
• Administer medication according to school district policy.
• Order supplies and maintain an inventory for each health room.
• Complete and submit all reports requested by the PA Department of Health and/or the district.
• Serve as a member on the Student Assistance Team, or similar group, and the Code Blue Team.
• Locate families and communicate health care needs of students.
• Write individual health care plans and/or sections of individual education plans, as necessary.
• Provide health immunization clinics as assigned.
• Maintain communication with staff regarding the special, physical, and medical needs of students while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Head Nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse
Valid CPR certificate
Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) Nonresidents and Pennsylvania residents who have not resided in the Commonwealth for at least two years prior to the date of application for employment are required to obtain an FBI Criminal History Record
Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
Submission of the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to reach above and below the waist
Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
Some stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting of the body required
Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time with some walking or moving throughout the building
