The ideal candidate will have experience taking initiative on work that needs to be done and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
Preference given to candidates with 5-10
years of experience as a Paralegal in a Family Law Firm.
The most important quality you can possess is a great attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves and help wherever it's needed.
Paralegals perform substantive billable legal work under the direction of one or more attorneys in the office.
A Paralegal's goal is to relieve the attorney(s) he or she works for of a portion of the tasks involved in the practice of law, so the attorneys can focus on more substantive and valuable tasks.
A Paralegal provides billable service to clients at a lower billable rate than an attorney, providing a benefit to the clients of the firm.
Paralegals are prohibited by the American Bar Association's rules of Professional Conduct and New Jersey Bar Association rules from practicing law.
All work done by Paralegals must be in support of and under the direct supervision of an attorney.
In dealing with clients, Paralegals must be careful not to inadvertently slip into the unlawful practice of law.
This would include answering client questions about what will happen in their case or recommending that a client undertake a certain course of action during their case.

Responsibilities:
Organize and analyze financial documents Read financial statements and prepare financial disclosures Manage, organize, analyze discovery and records Draft pleadings, motions, agreements, orders, and correspondence Prepares discovery and responses to discovery demands Dockets and schedules events:
o Adds ticklers/reminders to attorney and firm calendars as necessary.
Schedules mediations, hearings, trials, meetings, as necessary with court, opposing counsel, clients, staff and attorneys Helps the attorney prepare the client and the file for court and/or mediation.
Assists the attorney during hearings and trials Communicate with Clients, Attorneys, and Support Staff Serves as the clients' primary sources of contact by interacting with clients and building relationships with them by phone, email and in person o Communicates with clients with updates and gathers information o Provides more and better communication with clients o Strengthens the relationship between the client and the firm o Assures that the firm has the documentation necessary to best serve and understand the client's needs Calculate, track, and meet deadlines Organizes the attorneys' files o Assures that the client file is organized and ready (including exhibits) in advance of court, mediation or other outside attorney meetings Substitutes for Administrative Assistant as necessary Assists Administrative Assistant in creating, updating and managing client file and/or trial binder:

Prepares and maintains electronic file or trial binder b.
Helps prepare client file or trial binder for court, including exhibits c.
Enters time, expenses and billing data Family law is messy, and there is often no right or best answer.
Even gathering information can be difficult.
You will need to be creative, organized, and efficient to do your job well.
We all make mistakes, and we allow for that, but a penchant for accuracy and attention to detail are required to avoid mistakes that can cost our clients dearly.
You will be working on many cases concurrently, over long periods of time.
We expect you to keep track of key dates, keep the right people informed, and prioritize your time so that we never miss a deadline.
