Join L&S for an exciting role as an Accountant 3 with a team of other finance champions. You'll have an opportunity to make a positive impact by overseeing, facilitating and processing financial transactions in a manner that best utilizes available financial resources. This is a new initiative with an evolving team as the college implements Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) within L&S. The role is perfect for trailblazers passionate about building effective relationships while applying equitable practices that foster a community of belonging. Reporting to the Financial Manager, the Accountant 3 will work closely with various L&S departments as a subject matter expert in accounting and financial operations, policies, and procedures. Additionally, they will provide expertise on transactional and budget management tailored to the specific needs of each discipline.

The role involves key functions, such as:
- Processing expense reimbursement, purchasing, procurement, billing operations, cost transfers and accounting journals, and financial coding
- Coordinating with the supervising financial manager to ensure continuous workload re-prioritization needs are addressed in timely manner
- Supporting and collaborating with other Accountant 3s and Financial Specialists on the team.

Responsibilities:

Performs complex accounting duties, prepares financial and statistical reports, delivers training to others, develops and/or manages complex budgets, and develops and documents controls for accounting systems to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions. May lead and be a resource for others in their department/unit.
• 5% Leads and executes the development, organization, preparation, and updating of complex financial statements, journals, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
• 10% Prepares and analyzes financial reports, data and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, and recommends solutions as needed
• 5% Monitors automated financial systems, develops, and documents controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity
• 35% Performs complex accounting and auditing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
• 10% Develops and manages complex work unit budgets, analyzing funding sources, operational needs, budget trends, and financial commitments
• 20% Forecasts budget balances and recommends corrective action as needed
• 15% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

Qualifications:

- At least 3 years of accounting or financial experience required
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel including complex formulas, pivot tables, and creating dashboards
- Experience working with and interpreting policies and regulations and applying them to practical situations.
- Providing customer service to a variety of audiences (responding to inquires, working with people of varying backgrounds, troubleshooting, follow-up, providing basic training, communicating technical concepts)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to ability to effectively prioritize and manage competing transactions
- Evidence of successful creative problem solving
- Good written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with change management, such as financial systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems preferred.
- Experience in higher education, public service or similarly regulated industry

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $66,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $66,000 - $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
