Your pay scale and grade are based on various factors such as your level, where you do your duty, and the amount of time you invest in work.

Salary for GL-9

If you are accepted as a Border Patrol Agent, you will be at GL-9 grade level, followed by GS-11 and GS-12. You can move up the ranks without re-applying once you have completed 52 weeks of employment in each grade level. The BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014 allows fully trained agents to receive up to an additional 25% in base pay, further increasing earning potential.

Benefits:

Federal agents receive a full range of employment benefits, including health and insurance policies, an ample annual and sick leave allowance, and promotion in the Thrift Savings Plan, which works like a comparable 401(k) plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Border Patrol Agents are valued members of the federal law enforcement community, entrusted with critical responsibilities that help maintain public safety. Their work involves securing our borders, preventing illegal entry, and supporting the economic growth of the nation.

• Reacting to electronic sensor notifications; comprehending and adhering to tracks, traces, and other evident marks; utilizing infrared scopes during night-time patrols.
• Responding to sightings of aircraft and undertaking other measures to combat smuggling, including examining rural properties and ranches, monitoring traffic, patrolling urban areas, and conducting verification of transportation means.
• In its bid to safeguard the country's borders and coastlines, the USBP leans on Government resources, ranging from motorcycles, ATVs, and off-road vehicles to horses and boats.
• From time to time, occasional travel might be required based on operational requirements.

Duty Locations:

The work location is determined by the operational needs of the agency. Recruitment offers rely on the specifications and requirements of the U.S. Border Patrol. While many duty stations are likely accessible, the final letter may assign any location within the region.
