Overview of Position:

The Principal at Day Health plays a key role in helping the firm grow and leading our client work. In this role, the Principal is responsible for leading all phases of business development activities including professional networking and relationship building and identifying potential new partners and clients. The Principal also serves as the engagement lead for our clients and internal team to address complex business and health care challenges.

The Principal leads client projects by directing and overseeing the overall strategy and approach of each client engagement, including managing the client relationship, staffing the project appropriately, overseeing the contract and budget, and ensuring the successful design and execution of all client-facing deliverables. The Principal is also responsible for managing, recruiting, and retaining high-performing staff. This includes overseeing junior staff as they participate in business development and marketing activities, engage in client work, monitor industry developments and trends, identify ways to work more effectively and efficiently, and play a role in fostering a vibrant company culture.

This is a full-time position. Our firm operates in a hybrid format, offering flexibility as needed. A typical work week consists of three days of remote work and two days of in-person work at our office in Somerville, MA.


Lead business development opportunities by:
• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for engagement with past, current, and future clients.
• Identifying and pursuing new opportunities to enhance/expand our current service offerings to maintain competitiveness and relevance within the market.
• Clearly articulating how our services meet client needs, both in written and verbal form.

Oversee client engagements by:
• Creating project scopes and budgets.
• Developing and directing the strategic approach needed to successfully produce high-quality deliverables for each engagement while ensuring that all projects are completed within scope, on budget, and on time.
• Developing and directing the delivery and negotiations of written proposals, engagement letters, and other documents for prospective and continuing clients.
• Communicating progress regularly with clients, partners, the consulting team, and the executive management team.
• Designing and directing all mixed method data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.
• Designing and facilitating trainings, presentations, and/or workshops for diverse audiences ranging from executive leaders to clinicians to government leaders to board members.
• Leading post-engagement evaluations to guide team learning and the continuous improvement of our services.

Direct the design and preparation of clear, compelling, and visually appealing documents and deliverables for clients, including:
• PowerPoint presentations that succinctly present complex ideas and recommendations.
• Graphs, charts, and other visuals in Excel to present data analyses.
• Written reports appropriate for a variety of audiences, including senior executives, funders, and board members.

Play a key role in the development and maturation of our firm’s capabilities, including:
• Leading and collaborating on activities to enhance the firm’s culture and infrastructure.
• Selecting and applying evidence-based tools and frameworks for organizing and presenting complex information.
• Proactively seeking out and sharing opportunities to learn about the changing local, state, and federal healthcare landscape.
• Facilitating shared learning opportunities for the team.
• Overseeing the writing of proposals, engagement letters, and other documents for prospective and ongoing clients.
• Overseeing the performance and professional development of junior consultants.

To Excel in This Role, You Will Need:

7+ years of work experience in client or customer-facing roles such as consulting or similar experience.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Strong critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

The ability to communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing – with a variety of audiences. This looks like:
• Listening, identifying key details, and asking questions when needed.
• Representing Day Health at a variety of events, including public speaking for diverse audiences.
• Designing and facilitating trainings, presentations, and/or workshops for a variety of partner types (e.g., clinicians, board members, senior leaders).
• Presenting to clients and ensuring their understanding of key points.
• Providing constructive feedback to teammates.
• Overseeing the development clear written and visual materials that convey key ideas.

The ability to proactively identify and solve problems using data, reasoning, and clear research approaches. This looks like:
• Anticipating client questions and preparing responses.
• Using appropriate analytical approaches to gather and analyze data, both qualitative and quantitative.
• Synthesizing data and drawing/presenting relevant conclusions.

The ability to stay organized when balancing multiple competing projects. This looks like:
• Thinking ahead to plan for deadlines and managing activities to exceed client expectations.
• Prioritizing and effectively managing multiple client and internal demands to ensure timely delivery of all work.

The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This looks like:
• Proactively communicating needs, constraints, and risks to teammates and offering solutions to keep projects on track.
• Monitoring timelines, budgets, and scopes for multiple team members and escalating concerns to firm leadership, team members, and clients as needed.
• Supporting more junior staff in their efforts to prioritize work and manage workloads.

The ability to collaborate effectively with internal teammates, clients, and partners. This looks like:

• MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Data/analytics in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of other software is preferred (e.g., R, Stata, Salesforce, SAS, Tableau, Microsoft BI, others).
• Experience with MS Teams or other project management software.

The ability to oversee the performance and professional development of junior consultants. This looks like:
• Facilitating internal workshops, lunch-and-learns, and/or other group learning events.
• Providing individual and peer coaching.
• Actively exploring opportunities to grow and expand consultants’ skills (both internal and external to the firm).
• Conducting performance evaluations, setting goals, and overseeing progress.
