The Nautilus Welfare Fund is a UK-registered charity administered by Nautilus International, offering a range of specialist services to support retired seafarers and their dependent's. Mariners’ Park is based in, Wallasey on the Wirral Peninsular overlooking the River Mersey comprising a Care Home, Independent Living and Additional Support.

Job Purpose

To work as part of a team to deliver a high-quality mealtime experience to residents living at the Mariners Park Care Home.

Support the chef with any food preparation as required and ensure all wings, offices and staff room are stocked up with supplies each day.

Key Responsibilities:

· Prepare tables for each meal, serve meals and clear crockery and cutlery promptly back to the kitchen.

· Ensure crockery and cutlery is washed and returned to wings promptly ready for the next meal.

· To assist the Chef in the serving of meals and beverages.

· To maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and... residents dining areas, fridges and ovens.

· Record and report fridge/freezer temperatures in satellite kitchens and staff rooms as directed and report readings that are out of range.

· Ensure that wings are stocked up each day including snack baskets, ensuring stock is rotated daily, and clear dishes and trolleys promptly.

· Ensure residents supplementary drinks - smoothies, full cream, special diets are brought up to wings as directed by the nurse in charge.

General Responsibilities:

· To keep and maintain records to ensure food is stored in accordance with food hygiene regulations and relevant health and safety standards.

· To observe standards of cleanliness and ensure that all kitchen areas and

· kitchen equipment is maintained in accordance with Food Hygiene (General) Regulations

· To adhere to all standards and regulations as set down by the current legislation including, Health & Safety at Work Act, Food Hygiene Regulations the relevant regulatory authorities, and the Home's Policies/ Procedures.


You have a responsibility for ensuring that you are aware of the health & safety policies and procedures for NWF and that you take responsibility for your own health and safety whilst at work. Should you have any queries or questions you must raise these with your manager.

As we work with vulnerable adults, and encounter children, it is critical that you are able to recognise and respond to signs of or actual abuse and be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding. Training will be provided to support you in this area.

Mobile Phones are forbidden on the floor when caring for residents but can be used when on allocated breaks.

The organisation encourages and recognises the importance of personal development. You have a joint responsibility with NWF to work with your line manager to ensure that you are adequately skilled to perform your job and participate in the annual learning and development programme.

It is essential that you are aware of the policies and procedures which support the work of NWF and Nautilus International as they apply to you, and you are expected to contribute to their ongoing review. If there are any policies and procedures you do not understand, you must notify your line manager immediately.

Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships and communication with residents, team members, visitors and other external professionals and agencies to support the delivery and development of quality services that meet the needs of our residents.
