Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer has various echocardiography-related tasks to perform across different healthcare settings, requiring extensive knowledge of cardiovascular principles and ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Essential skills for this role include the ability to generate and assess cardiac ultrasound images, which provide physicians with valuable data for medical diagnoses. Effective communication with staff, physicians, patients, and family members is critical, necessitating good judgment and discretion during the clinical examination process. Furthermore, the Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for providing patient education and delivering a comprehensive technical report to the physician, either orally or in writing. The Cardiac Sonographer caters to patients of all ages and is expected to be available for on-call duties on a rotating basis, including weekends, holidays, and nights.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
• Performs comprehensive cardiac evaluations according to established departmental protocols and procedures.
• Continual learning about cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology is important for healthcare professionals to stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in the field.
• Proficient in the use of echocardiography equipment and accurately interpreting the resulting outcomes.
• Scrutinizes exam requests to confirm correct orders, appointment date, and reason for the examination.
• The exam studies are in line with the policies and procedures for providing accurate data to the cardiologists who are reading them.
• Obtains imaging that is specifically tailored to the diagnostic indication.
• Demonstrates mastery in using advanced technology to obtain high-quality echocardiographic images and successfully transmitting them to the relevant PACs database.
• The EMR displays essential preliminary data that should be examined by a cardiologist.
• Verifies that all charges for the procedure and its associated supplies are correctly documented within the EMR.
• The lab is adequately meeting the quality standards laid out by the medical imaging director.
• Being proficient at discerning even the minutest of details and functioning with ease in a fast-paced medical industry.
• Additional obligations necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position.

Additional Requirements


Education - Associates degree in Applied Science

Certification - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) Certification - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)


Experience - 1+ years of Cardiac Sonographer Experience; Experience performing TEEs within the last year; Previous experience performing Stress Echo within the last year

Education - Bachelors degree in Ultrasound

Physical Requirements:

Individuals in this job must be physically fit, as the work involves heavy-duty physical activity. They will consistently apply up to 25 pounds of force, frequently apply up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds on up to 33% of occasions. Infrequent physical exertion may also be necessary to move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
