This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team which is responsible for overseeing and mitigating the Environment Agency’s security risks. As Corporate Security Advisor, you’ll be able to make a difference across the whole organisation by helping to protect against security threats that could affect our people, data and information, or physical assets. You will be a role model for security, fostering a positive culture and promoting good behaviours.

In this role you will:
• work with risk owners across the organisation to ensure security risks are understood, assessed, and adequately mitigated.
• provide assurance to the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for security, and to other senior leaders.
•... work in partnership with Defra group Security to ensure we have the right policies, processes, and guidance in place.
• plan, write, and deliver engaging communications to a variety of stakeholders.
• assess training requirements to design and deliver regular training across the organisation.
• monitor and analyse key security culture metrics.
• organise and contribute to security governance meetings.
• maintain networks with security professionals to stay up to date with the latest context.

The team

You will be part of a small team within the Corporate Management, Assurance, and Security team, who are focused on protecting and enabling the organisation to function effectively and be resilient. You will access the advice of the professional security teams in Defra and work with subject matter experts in the Environment Agency. The team manages a diverse range of work and you will have an opportunity to gain a wide range of experience.

Experience/skills Required

The external security landscape is complex with new and evolving risks. Although you do not need to be a security professional, you will need the following skills and experience:

• appreciation of wider influences for the security of the organisation, so we can continuously improve to meet changing demands.
• independent and self-motivated, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple demands.
• ability to build effective relationships with Defra and Environment Agency colleagues, to jointly manage risks.
• excellent verbal and written communication skills, you can adapt to your audience and use an engaging style of communication.
• working with and providing briefings to senior colleagues.
• comfortable with handling and analysing data to identify issues and trends.

• proficiency in using software (such as Excel and PowerBI) to manage data and to generate clear and engaging reports and dashboards.
• experience of risk management.

Contact and additional information

The post is for 18 months, while we assess longer term needs in the team.

As part of a national team the location is flexible. You may be required to work in Environment Agency offices and attend national meetings, with some overnight stays.
