Job Description

We are the Environment Agency. Working with Government, councils, businesses, and communities, we create a better place for people and wildlife.

We currently have a permanent vacancy for a Governance and Engagement Officer within the Board Governance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of the organisation to support our senior leaders. The successful candidate will work on a mixture of reactive and proactive work including:
• supporting the planning and delivery of Environment Agency Board, Committee and Executive Director meetings and visits, ensuring the meetings operate effectively and accurate and timely minutes are produced
• coordination of Environment Agency Honors nominations process, working with Defra, internal teams and senior stakeholders to ensure nominations reflect the breadth of our work and the diversity of our staff
• engagement with Non-Executive Board members and Executive Managers to provide support and advice including... technical support on issues such as the processing of expenses and IT
• ensuring communications with Board members are accurate and timely
• managing team SharePoint sites; carrying out a range of actions to ensure information is current and secure
• ensuring board records comply with internal and external guidance and that deadlines are met
• supporting the development of content for Gov.uk pages ensuring information is relevant and up to date
• using your initiative to identify improvements to existing ways of working
• being an active member of the Board Governance Team by contributing at team meetings and supporting other cross-team initiatives

The team

The Board Governance Team provides a professional secretariat and support service to the Environment Agency Board, Committees and Executive Directors Team, planning and delivering over 50 meetings per year. The team also engage across the business to manage a forward look of agenda items to ensure decisions are made in the right place at the right time, recruit and provide ongoing support to Board members, and ensure the Board complies with legislation and guidance.

Experience/skills Required

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
• excellent organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
• ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• the ability to work comfortably with senior managers
• the ability to record and present data and information in a clear, comprehensible style and format
• good IT skills – particularly SharePoint
• excellent written and verbal skill
• excellent attention to detail.

As the Environment Agency is a category 1 responder, the successful candidate will be expected to have a role during a major flood or environmental incident.
