As a Manufacturing Engineer at Georgia-Pacific, you will play a vital role in improving manufacturing processes, optimizing efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety within our manufacturing facilities.

Our Team

The Port Hudson Plant is located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA. The Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern® and Brawny®. The Port Hudson facility uses integrated technology to manufacture tissue and paper towel products in a progressive production environment. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away and there is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do
• Embrace influential leadership to support the organization while advancing our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative solutions to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational performance
• Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules
• Evaluate existing equipment and technologies, research and recommend upgrades or replacements to improve performance, reliability, and safety
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze production data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights to drive process improvements and increase productivity
• Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to implement Lean Six Sigma methodologies, including Kaizen events and Value Stream Mapping, to streamline processes and eliminate waste
• Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve consistency, safety, and quality across manufacturing operations
• Support the planning and implementation of capital projects, including new equipment installations, facility expansions, or process upgrades
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies, actively promoting a culture of safety and driving initiatives to minimize workplace hazards
• Provide training and support to production personnel on new processes, equipment, and technologies
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, quality assurance, and supply chain, to drive collaboration and achieve common goals

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
• Experience working within a pulp and paper, industrial, military, or heavy manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in process improvement tools such as root cause analysis, value stream mapping and statistical analysis
• Experience with process optimization, equipment upgrades, and implementing new technologies
• Familiarity with safety standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices in manufacturing operations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

What Will Put You Ahead
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related field
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
