jobs description

Join us for our innovative part-time PhD programme exclusively for International Masters Program for Managers (IMPM) alumni that extends IMPM and enhances your engaged research capabilities while helping you make a real impact in your organisation, profession, academic and practitioner field and beyond.

Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) offers a four-year, part-time structured International Doctorate Programme for Managers leading a PhD in the Theory and Practice of Management. This PhD programme covers the essential management research basics with a focus on engaged research and offers the chance to specialize in engaged inquiry and action research.

We are looking for International Masters Programme for Managers (IMPM) alumni to join IDPM as highly motivated doctoral candidates in our international community of researchers and students from more than 180 countries.

LUMS is a quadruple-accredited, world-ranked management school with a reputation for outstanding... research. In the UK’s latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), we were rated 1st for Research Power – recognising the breadth and depth of our work – and joint-first for our research environment, providing the perfect platform for future research talent to develop and flourish. In REF 2021, 90% of our research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. Our commitment to high-quality doctoral research is demonstrated by LUMS PhD graduates obtaining academic, research and consultancy positions in leading institutions worldwide.

The part-time PhD in the Theory and Practice of Management (TPM) combines the academic rigour of a PhD with the accessibility of a structured, part-time research programme focused on engaged and impactful research. A recent EFMD doctoral conference hosted at Lancaster emphasised the changing forms of knowledge production within academia and society more broadly, as well as the need for universities to update their provision to reflect the societies they serve. This programme responds to that need with its increased focus on research impact and business engagement. It also recognises that doctoral researchers form an integral part of our research and community and add value to the research conducted at Lancaster University.

To join our world-leading research environment, candidates must be an IMPM alumnus and have graduated with the program’s master’s degree (with a minimum of 65% in the Degree Major Paper and 65% overall). Professional experience related to your intended PhD studies is highly desirable.
