Job Title: Series producer, Subscriber events, Video Department

Location: London

Contract Type: Permanent, full-time (inc 6 month probation)

The Economist is looking for a talented series producer to join our editorial video department to produce live subscriber events, working closely with our subscriber retention team. You will be responsible for creating live online and in-person discussion panels featuring senior journalists from The Economist and prominent guests, aimed at our 1.2 million subscribers. In a short period of time these digital events have become a pillar of how The Economist delivers its journalism to our audience.

The ideal candidate will have worked as a journalist, with experience in scriptwriting, interviews and live event production / TV news. They will work closely with senior editors and journalists to produce compelling and insightful live digital events. Experience in, and a passion for, journalism and... current affairs are essential. We’re looking for a candidate who is excited by the prospect of delivering editorially-rigorous and engaging events that make sense of news now, as well as explain developments that will shape the world in the future. They will need to be able to synthesise research into pithy scripts, explain complex ideas clearly and stay calm in a live production environment.

Responsibilities:
• To propose, create and deliver editorially-rigorous events that appeal to important target audiences, in line with The Economist’s strategy to retain and attract subscribers
• Shape the year-round programme of subscriber events and proactively pitch ideas in co-ordination with The Economist’s executive editor and events marketing team
• Line manage and develop an assistant producer
• Pre-production and planning of events, including running orders, picture research, graphics and briefing contributors and hosts
• Gallery-producing/directing events, in conjunction with the live production team
• Bidding for and securing interviews with high-profile guests. Setting up, producing and directing news-making shoots
• Oversee the edit of impactful video cutdowns from events for promotion on The Economist app, social media and for marketing purposes
• To work hand in hand with the subscriber events marketing team (within the retention team) to plan and co-ordinate each live event
• Further develop the vision for the future of subscriber events at The Economist
• Utilise analytics to inform the commissioning process and creative storytelling across platforms

Requirements:
• Extensive experience in TV / video journalism and current affairs / news
• Experience in live events, TV news or webinars
• Experience in working to tight deadlines in a fast news cycle
• Experience of managing junior colleagues
• Strong knowledge and understanding of The Economist’s brand, digital content and style guide
• Self-starter, who’s comfortable working independently
• Understanding of media law and commercial regulations
• Creative mind and strong storytelling skills
• Attention to detail

Advantageous:
• Experience setting up, producing and directing multi-camera studio shoots to a high standard
• Experience producing interviews with high-profile guests
• Knowledge of Premiere Pro, After Effects and other Creative Suite applications
