About the role: The position is responsible for supporting the R&D team’s initiative in leading and executing projects for bakery mixes, breading’s, batters, and drink mixes. As the senior food scientist, you will have the unique opportunity to expand our product categories and drive projects forward independently and with the help of junior associates. You must have a proven record of completing work plans and driving results in a variety of challenging and complex settings. The candidate must have a technical background and apply scientific principles to new and existing situations. The candidate must be self-motivated, detailed-oriented, and a creative thinker with strong interpersonal skills. This position requires work in a

cross-functional environment with strong communication and teamwork skills. You will provide effective and timely support to multiple projects simultaneously and will partner with internal plants as well as our external contract manufacturers to produce safe and wholesome food for our consumers by maintaining detailed and thorough documentation. The role requires reporting under the supervision of the R&D manager.

• Manage projects and individual tasks with limited supervision
• Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review
• Conceptualize and develop new product prototypes to expand our current categories
• Responsible for leading complex projects that involve driving timelines, creating technical proposals, reports, and recommendations
• Responsible for communicating to appropriate departments when new products, new processes, or changes are being introduced and providing them with specifications, standards, procedures, and support
• Arrange and assist in plant trials for new products or new processes, ensuring they are conducted efficiently and cost-effectively
• Works cross-functionally with Quality, Production, Purchasing, and Sales to ensure the success of projects from bench-top through commercialization
• Ensure technical knowledge of the industry is continually up to date with an emphasis on the process, products, and ingredients that are used internally and those that may offer a competitive advantage
• Provides technical support to both internal and external customers
• Validates all documents that junior associates generate with Genesis software for the preparation of ingredient statements
• Train food scientists, associate food scientists, and R&D lab techs on new processes within the department

Candidate requirements:
• B.S. in food science or related science from an accredited university
• 5+ years of food industry experience covering a combination of food manufacturing, research and development, commercialization, food safety, and quality management systems
• 1-3 years of bakery experience, including formulating
• Strong planning, organizing, and communication skills
• Solid technical background, ability to understand product formulation techniques, sensory evaluation, processing technology, regulatory compliance, GMP, HACCP, Organic
• Exhibit leadership and proactive attitudes in approaching technical solutions to business and purchasing issues
• Great presentation skills, both oral and written with negotiating skills for conflict resolution
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office · Knowledge of ESHA Genesis software is a plus · Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
• Ability to taste test all products produced in our plant that may include certain food allergens
• Must be able to travel 10-20% for training and working with new customers
