jobs description

Diabetes is a pesky monster — and that’s putting it mildly. If you’re serious about helping us face it head on, come join us! For a behind-the-scenes look, check out our Monster Culture Blog, this little video and Roche code4life to see what makes mySugr and Roche tick.

Here's what we're looking for:

Developing apps is great, but developing apps with a purpose is even better! As a Software Engineer at Roche Diabetes Care, you’ll work on a product that helps people with the most precious thing they have — their health. In collaborative teams of developers, architects, product owners, and QA experts, you’ll experience best-in-class software development practices on a daily basis and contribute to software that meets the highest expectations — we do not put our users' lives at risk!

We are looking for an experienced, motivated Backend Software Engineer who will work closely with their backend colleagues, and who ideally has built digital products and platforms. You will contribute... with your knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, relational databases & REST within our agile and cross-functional teams. As a flexible and open-minded person with a passion for clean code you will be a perfect addition to our team. We are committed to quality, dedicating time to code reviews, test coverage, quality days and CI/CD principles. If this resonates with you, we would love to hear from you!

You will be part of our User Account team working on our Access and Identity Management system.

Your upcoming mission:
• You have at least 5 years of experience working as a software engineer, with 2 years as a backend engineer
• You are familiar with the following backend technologies: Java 21+ and frameworks like Spring Boot 3+
• You have experience with Keycloak or other open source software product that allows single sign-on with identity and access management
• SQL and relational databases (e.g.PostgreSQL) are second nature to you
• You enjoy developing clean, stable, testable, and performant backend code, serving our beautiful applications
• You are passionate about solid technical design, clean code, and future-proof architectures
• You have experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud providers
• You enjoy guiding and sharing your knowledge with other engineers
• Great written and verbal communication in English
• You are either an EU citizen or hold a valid Austrian work permit

Bonus skills:
• Experience with medical, security, and privacy regulations
• Knowledge of the diabetes industry or other comparable health industries
• Experience working in agile environments

Here's what you can expect from us:
• Ambitious and passionate people building meaningful products for a global audience
• An innovative agile working environment allowing for collaboration with really smart people and knowledge sharing in cross-functional teams
• A growing organization with room for development
• Loads of benefits (brand new Apple hardware, fitness, public transport, lunch benefit, language classes, professional training budget,...)
• Flexible home office policy, 5 weeks vacation
• A kick-ass office with a rooftop terrace, fully stocked kitchen and amazing barista coffee machines in the middle of Vienna… oh, and did we mention the best team in the world!

You will learn about the wide range of technologies we employ, from native mobile development to infrastructure-as-code in our cloud environment, gaining a rich understanding of the specific requirements of medical software, be it security, medical risk management, safe and resilient programming, or certifications and audits.

You will have direct contact with our users, learning about their daily struggles living with diabetes, as well as customers and partners, understanding the unique needs and mechanics of health care systems around the world. Additionally, you may explore other roles related to software development, such as Product Owner or Scrum Master within our interdisciplinary team structure.
