Job purpose:

PLMR is a successful, fast-growing communications agency with a dynamic, vibrant team that works across a number of high-profile clients to deliver public affairs, public relations and digital solutions.

As an Account Manager you will be a central member of the PLMR team providing high quality servicing to all our clients. You will have at least three years’ experience in dealing with local, trade, national and digital media; will be able to demonstrate your ability to develop relationships with journalists; and will have a proven aptitude for consultancy and management.

In this role you will progress your consultancy skills; overseeing the day to day management of client accounts and maintaining a positive client relationships; understanding the media landscape and identifying proactive and reactive press opportunities, including any potential reputational risks; monitoring political trends; and navigating issues which might impact client activity. You will also... further develop your commercial and business skills, upselling to clients and support with new business proposals that meet organisations’ aims and objectives. In this role, you will manage relationships with both junior and senior colleagues, ensuring PLMR meets and exceeds client expectations at every level.

This role will sit within PLMR’s education practice, working on an array of clients within the sector, spanning multi-academy trusts and schools, edtech providers, education charities and associations as well as supporting corporate organisations and other businesses working within PLMR’s other sector areas, as required. While the role will predominantly focus on media relations (PR and reputation management), there will be opportunities for public affairs, stakeholder engagement and broader communications support.

Main responsibilities:

Client delivery

· Provide leadership on accounts and act as a trusted point of contact for the client

· Maintaining excellent client relationships – ensuring they feel well serviced and able to call for advice at any time

· Maximising opportunities for account development at all times, identifying ways to upsell as well as deliver against clients’ aims and objectives

· Working with senior colleagues to ensure that client accounts are run efficiently and to budget

· Developing excellent relationships with client teams and wider stakeholders

· Delegating tasks to junior colleagues where appropriate and motivating them to deliver on these

· Responding appropriately to crisis management issues

· Drafting an array of communications, from press releases and articles to briefing notes, letters and ad copy and distributing to targeted media or audiences as required

PLMR growth

· Supporting senior colleagues with new business opportunities, including providing background research, participating in new business calls and leading on proposal development - thereby assisting in the growth of the PLMR business and the achievement of its business plan

· Attending events, seminars, and conferences, and setting up regular meetings with contacts to promote a positive, professional image of PLMR as a market leader and obvious point of call for our services

· Networking with potential new business leads

· Developing existing client accounts to increase retainers

Activities may be subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities and requirements evolve.

Person Specification

· Educated to degree standard or with at least three years’ relevant experience in an agency or in-house communications setting

· Experience of managing PR and public affairs projects, liaising with journalists and securing press opportunities in national, trade and regional and local media outlets

· Expertise in strategic digital communications

· A strong knowledge of national and sectoral media, current events, and political systems

· Proven ability to research and gather information from a range of sources, identify key issues relevant to clients, generate original ideas and solutions into concise, crisp but analytically rich results which can be pitched to media and/or political stakeholders

· Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to conceptualise, analyse and write persuasive arguments, particularly for media
