About the role

The Biomedical Research division is the innovation engine of Novartis. We are currently seeking an agile, curious, and highly motivated Scientist to join our In Vivo Pharmacology team in support of pre-clinical drug development programs.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting in vivo and ex vivo studies to enable the progression of research programs in the Discovery and Translational Pharmacology group, focusing on the innovative Disease Area X (DAx), which encompasses hepatology (Liver), nephrology (Kidney), and fibrosis therapeutic areas..

Key Responsibilities:
• Investigate the mechanism of action for research targets and compounds and study the pathophysiology of disease.
• Conduct in vivo and ex vivo experiments on rodents, tissues, or cells to support drug discovery progression and identify and validate new targets.
• Develop and execute new in vivo models and readouts, perform in vivo... efficacy and PK/PD studies.
• Develop and execute key assays utilizing molecular, biochemical, and/or immunohistochemistry techniques.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design studies that assess pharmacodynamics and efficacy of therapeutic candidates in preclinical models.
• Independently design, execute, and analyze experiments, interpret data from different sources, draw relevant conclusions, and document and present data.
• Identify problems and propose solutions, while contributing to report writing.
Role Requirements
What you will bring to the role:

• B.S. or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline with laboratory-based industrial or academic experience
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with in-vivo rodent research, as well as certifications for carrying out animal experiments (LTK Module 1 or 2 or a different FELASA Cat. B, C accredited course).
• Proven knowledge and research in disease areas of kidney, liver and/or fibrosis would be highly beneficial
• In-depth experience with in vivo procedures in rodents, including multiple routes of dose administration, blood collection, dissection techniques, and tissue collection.
• Hands-on experience and/or motivation to acquire molecular, biochemical, and/or immunohistochemical techniques (such as Western blotting, ELISA, RT-PCR, histology, IHC).
• Understanding and experience with omics data analysis and data visualization tools (such as Spotfire) is a big plus.
• Flexibility and interest in learning and applying a variety of techniques to explore scientific hypotheses and support drug discovery efforts.
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data, and work independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with German skills being desirable.
• Outstanding team player, open-minded, self-motivated, flexible, and curious to approach new research and disease areas.
