Position Information

Bathurst Public School has a proud heritage as the oldest public school in the district. The school opened in 1853 and has contributed to the city's rich history by educating generations of Bathurst's children. Located within the Bathurst Central District, our student enrolments are drawn... from an established residential area.

Bathurst Public School has 16 mainstream classes, five support classes, and 50 staff, including itinerant teachers, the Home School Liaison Officer, and specialist teachers. On average, 12% of our student population is Aboriginal, with a growing percentage of students from non-English-speaking backgrounds.

To achieve student growth and attainment, we use data-driven practices that ensure all students have access to stage-appropriate learning. We prepare teachers for explicit teaching by deepening their understanding of the curriculum and new evidence-based research around students' learning.

We develop a positive culture of continuous improvement and support through our professional practice. As school leaders, the executive ensures research, innovation, and creativity are core characteristics of the school's continuous improvement culture. High-impact teaching strategies are incorporated into daily teaching practices through the collaborative work of stage teams.

We embed a whole-school approach to well-being to ensure students, parents, and teachers feel connected and belonging. We have developed a shared understanding of the many dimensions of well-being and the evidence-based practices we can use to meet the full range of student needs. By building positive student-teacher relations and fostering a strong sense of connectedness and belonging across the school community, we seek to lift the performance of all students and improve student engagement and participation.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs such as mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, behavioural difficulties and emotional disturbance.

Demonstrated ability to design, deliver and evaluate evidence-based teaching practices that respond to students' social, emotional, personal, and academic learning needs.

Demonstrated capacity to implement a variety of welfare strategies for students with behavioural difficulties that promote a positive, productive, and caring learning environment.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a variety of teams and build strong and inclusive relationships with parents and members of the wider school community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
