Class Summary

Job Description...

This position will be responsible for supervising children adjudicated delinquent, providing referrals to programming to reduce recidivism, and providing case management for youth on probation and Children in Need Services (CHINS). Probation Officers will also make recommendations to court.

Essential Duties
• Oversees and reviews a caseload of juveniles on probation
• Meets with clients and families
• Conducts home and school visits
• Researches rehabilitative programs and recommends resources
• Closely monitors youth to ensure they are meeting conditions of probation
• Provides supervised drug screens to clients
• Testifies and makes recommendations to court

Public Speaking Duties
• Speaking and/or testifying in court
• Making recommendations to court


The grade for this position is B25(1).

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field(s)
• One (1) year of experience as a Probation Officer, Police Officer, Social Worker, or working in the juvenile justice system, or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job

Preferred Qualifications
• Two (2) or more years' experience as a Probation Officer, Police Officer, Social Worker, or work in the juvenile justice system

• Valid driver's license from state of residency
• This job requires a background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, credit check, and fingerprinting.
• This job is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule.

The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.

In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
