This temporary position is located in Raleigh, NC - Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $25.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 2000 Yonkers Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.

The objective of the Grants section is to ensure fiscal accountability of the use of funds awarded to the agency from various sources. This includes but is not limited to compliance, interpreting, and applying federal regulations, cash management and reporting of expenditures. The agency receives federal grants, cooperative agreements, state grants and private grants.

The position's primary responsibilities are for the management and coordination of federal funds accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis relative to federal funds accounting. It is responsible for the federal funds accounting activities of the Department of Public Safety as if relates to the Division of Emergency Management.

This position has been structured to closely assist the Grants Supervisor with grants processing, accounting, and reporting for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. This position will be responsible for assisting the Grants Supervisor with preparing quarterly federal financial reports SFf425s and assisting with reconciling grants balances. The Accountant I will also assist the Grants Supervisor with providing documentation for monitoring reviews and audits. This position plays a vital role in assisting the Grants Accounting Manager and Grants Supervisor in ensuring that all responsibilities are successfully executed. State Fiscal year grant revenues between $115 - $750M.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

• Working knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.
• Knowledge of accounting and other software (e.g.: ERP, Excel, Word, Access).
• Knowledge of basis mathematical computations.
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply the laws and regulations pertaining to financial records.
• Ability to use posting, calculating, or adding machine in recording financial data or making computations.
• Ability to prepare standard financial statements and reports.
• Ability to identify and correct routine and recurring financial problems, referring more complex problems to a higher level.
• Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
• Ability to verify accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
