Job Summary

As a future member of the Interpreting and Translation Services Department, the candidate, under the direction of the Interpreting and Translation Management Team supports the department by providing language access coordination and analytical and administrative support including scheduling, correspondence, development and maintenance of various databases and database related activities. Demonstrates initiative, leadership and advance problem-solving skills. Utilizes knowledge of policies, procedures, and resources to ensure compliance with related regulatory and organizational requirements.

Provides language access coordinating services for various UCSF partners. Professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments / projects / tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.

Candidates must be comfortable providing rotational on-call weekend support.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $123,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Interpreting and Translation Services department at UCSF Health is committed to the provision of interpreting services 24/7 to patients, families, providers, and staff to facilitate optimal care and services. We provide services at no cost to patients who are non-English speaking, limited English proficient, deaf, hard of hearing, and sight or speech impaired. We offer on-site, over-the-phone, and video medical interpreting in over 200 languages, including American Sign Language. Interpreting services are provided by our own UCSF staff interpreters as well as qualified vendor and contract staff who collaborate with our staff to optimize communication. We also offer document translation services and bilingual certification for clinicians and staff. Using Lean principles and innovative improvement strategies, we partner with all levels of staff to continually evaluate multi-source data and trends to provide the most comprehensive, compliant, efficient, user-friendly, and excellent program for our patients and staff.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Flexibility to work at all sites.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of administrative/analytical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, website design, and accounting guidelines.
• Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs: Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
• Desktop publishing skills to do newsletters, brochures, posters, and flyers.
• Proficient in a language another than English, spoken and written
• Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
• Presents professional demeanor and is a customer service role model in interactions with internal and external customers, demonstrates exemplary customer service skills in all verbal and written interactions
• Ability to learn the growing number of world languages that may be requested and necessitate extra coordination.
• Ability to pass written assessment for additional language within the probationary period.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable University rules and regulations, policies, processes, protocols and procedures.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Exercises utmost integrity in protecting the confidential nature of HR and patient information.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills, flexibility, and adaptability to multiple and competing responsibilities. Comfortable working under pressure with the ability to multi-task, set priorities, and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals
• Responsible for self-assessment and advancement of skill level and independently seeks out resources/training to learn new skills and procedures and to maintain currency in position.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures and incorporates ergonomic principles in work habits.

Preferred Qualifications
• National Certification for Medical Interpreting (CCHI or CMI)
• American Translators Association (ATA) certificate
