Where you'll be working

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. What You'll Be Doing

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

The NUM is responsible for all aspects of operations including patient care, developing and maintaining safe clinical practices and excellent clinical outcomes, quality improvement and human resources management.

The 35-bed Neuroscience Unit supports surgical and medical streams including acute stroke, neuro-interventional radiology, neurosurgery, neurology and a close observation unit for patients requiring higher level care. The unit also includes a state funded epilepsy service.

The Purpose Of The NUM Is To
• Lead, direct and co-ordinate patient or client care
• Ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives
• Lead and co-ordinate the nursing and multi-disciplinary care team at the ward or unit level
• Monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
• Relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
• A demonstrated knowledge and experience in the management and delivery of health care services
• Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and practice development
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage, enable and manage teams
• Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services
• Recent clinical experience in Neurosciences nursing
• Understanding of and commitment to the effective and meaningful engagement of clinicians in the decision making process that impact on positive patient outcomes
