We re looking for talented and experienced individuals who have a desire to join us on our journey and make a positive impact on the world.ROLE DESCRIPTIONThe Materials Chemist is responsible for the research and development of new types of optical materials, for our leading SecondSky agriculture covering materials. As the primary... person responsible for driving forward the new developments, the Materials Chemist will be responsible for the design, synthesis and characterisation of our next generation of optical materials. The role will be a mix of hands-on applied work, as well as analysis, and desk based research. In addition to inter-company collaboration, the role will need to collaborate with external parties, such as academic research groups and commercial development teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Chemistry and Materials Science. Industrial polymer chemistry as well as knowledge on synthetic scale up and production will be required. The candidate will be expected to be an excellent communicator, extremely organised, efficient and work well with all levels of employees. The position is based in KAUST in Saudi Arabia, but travel to various operational locations may be required.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The role s primary responsibilities are listed, but not limited to the below:Design of new materials and synthetic procedures Synthesis and creation of new optical materials (dyes and polymeric materials) Characterisation of materials, including structure and optical propertiesDevelopment of materials into pigments Testing of developed pigments with polymers and polymer processing Literature research and aggregation of existing knowledgePresentation of research findings, progress and results R&D roadmapping and planning Working with other team members on shared projects Collaboration and communication with external research groupsREQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCEThis role will report directly to the CTO and is expected to have / be:At, minimum of a Master s degree in Chemistry or Materials Science. Experience of working in a laboratory, handling chemicals and synthetic procedures Knowledge of characterisation techniques, such as: UV-Vis and FTIR Spectroscopy, GCMS, DLS.Knowledge of optical and optoelectronic materials chemistry, olefin chemistry knowledge is desirableExcellent communication skillsAn entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational skillsAnalytical abilities and problem-solving skillsFluent in English
