Data Scientist
Immediate start 12 Months Contract
Daily Rate: $700 - $9000 + super
Location – ACT, NSW, QLD

DFP Recruitment is urgently seeking a Data Scientist for our government Client. As this role is within a Federal Government agency, applicants are required to be Australian citizens.

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
• Provide expert advice on complex data ingestion problem solving and issues management.
• Recommend strategic directions for area of responsibility and consider wider agency implications when making decisions.
• Consider and effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions in line with agency goals and objectives.
• Provide a significant contribution to innovation and data improvement strategies.
• Partner with IT specialists, Data Engineers, Data analysts and business teams to build foundational data sets, end user analysis and visualisations... that are trusted, well understood, aligned with business strategy, and enable self-service.
• Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
• Attain and maintain an extensive understanding of the role and responsibilities of the agency, including and understanding of the APS operating environment more broadly.
• Work within established legislative and policy frameworks.
• Deliver tangible analytical assets, utilising appropriate advanced analytical techniques and productionise these into the modelling pipeline.
• Support reporting requirements by analysing, extracting, and publishing information on anomalies, insights, and trends.
• Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
• Use predictive modelling to increase and optimise business outcomes.
• Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes, and facilitate cooperation.
• Other duties as directed.
Required skills and qualifications:
• Experience working with Databricks.
• Experience working with and creating data architectures.
• Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
• Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages E.g., Python and SQL to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
• Experience in government or health sector.
