JOB OPPORTUNITY

Officer of the City Manager ● Legal Services

LEGAL ADVISOR : BASIC SALARY: R528 114 PER ANNUM

SENIOR LEGAL ADVISOR : TCOE SALARY: R961 9456 PER ANNUM

PRINCIPAL LEGAL ADVISOR: TCOE SALARY: R1 174 257 PER ANNI

Requirements:

Principal Legal Advisor:

 An LLB degree and admission as an Attorney or

 Advocate (Passed Bar Examination)

 Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in employment and

labour law, and administrative law, including general

litigation.

 Supervisory experience

 Sound knowledge of Local Government legislation,

Labour Legislation, Employee Relations Practices, HR

policies and procedures

 Knowledge of corporate governance principles

 Computer literac

Senior Legal Advisor/ Legal Advisor:

An LLB degree and admission as an Attorney or Bar

Advocate (passed bar examination)

 At least three (3) to four (4) years’ minimum postadmission

experience in a senior position and relevant

legal environment (Senior Legal Advisor)

 At least two... (2) years’ minimum post-admission

experience in a relevant legal environment (Legal

Advisor)

 Providing legal advice, guidance, assistance and

written legal opinions

 Computer literacy in MS Office Suite

 Sound knowledge of Local Government legislation,

policies and procedures

 Valid driver’s license

 Ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks, with

minimum supervision

 Ability to diligently work on high volumes of work under

considerable pressure

 Ability to manage and advise various stakeholders within

the environment of local government.

Key Performance Areas:

Only Relevant to Principal Legal Advisor:

 Provide legal support, specialist legal advice, drafting

services, litigation management and negotiation assistance

to relevant Departments and support Council committees

 Manage all external dispute resolution processes (inclusive of

South African Local Government Bargaining Council and

Labour Court)

Legal Administration

 Must be able to draft own papers without the assistance of

counsel

 Manage staff of subcomponent and related administration

processes

 Direct and manage quality of work delivered by staff

 Build and manage sound relations with both internal and

external stakeholders

 Good communicator with strong interpersonal skills.

A basic salary and benefit dispensation for all positions in grades T13 and below. Benefits includes employer contributions to medical aid, pension or provident fund, group life, housing subsidy subject to any City of Cape Town policy or collective agreement, which may

prevail.
