PLANT MANAGER - HOUSTON

Role Summary...

This role will lead, manage, and continuously improve all manufacturing and logistics processes in full alignment with the company strategy. Continuously improve safety through training, auditing, and housekeeping. Maximize available uptime through improvement of predictive and preventive maintenance and process improvements. Continuously improve customer satisfaction through improvement of on-time delivery, reduction of customer complaints and consistency of product quality. Reduce the total delivered cost of goods through reduction of non-conforming product, increased process reliability, and increased productivity. Manage, direct, and implement operations strategies to ensure the achievement of Pilot Chemical’s short- and long-term goals and policies. Support and foster business policies and objectives, while ensuring a positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for the safety, management, development, and morale of ~ 30 people.
• Lead a safety culture transformation focused on leading indicator, activity-based employee engagement.
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable EH&S regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for ensuring Houston plant compliance with the Responsible Care Management System® including regular risk assessments and action planning for risk reduction to demonstrate continuous improvement.
• Strengthen the Continuous Improvement process for the Houston plant for defining and implementing workflow efficiency, fixed cost savings, yield improvements, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
• Ensure site implementation of Pilot Maintenance process to deliver improved equipment reliability and best-in-class maintenance cost profile.
• Must work collaboratively with other Plant Managers and Corporate support groups to achieve site objectives that are aligned with the overall Manufacturing Strategy objectives.
• Must work collaboratively with Corporate Process and Project Engineering functions to implement strategic technology improvements and implement Capital Investment plan.
• This is a Safety-Sensitive position, meaning the employee is directly responsible for his or her own safety or the safety of other people. “Safety-Sensitive” roles include “any job that includes tasks or duties that the employer reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.”

Competencies

Required:
• Minimum of a BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with at least 15 years of professional experience of which at least 10 years are in the management of a multi-product chemical manufacturing environment. Experience with batch reaction, continuous reaction, and fractionation unit operations is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership in continuous improvement as evidenced by a successful record of improvements achieved through analytical and personnel management skills.
• Experience managing in a PSM-regulated facility is strongly preferred.
• Must be able to collaborate with all functions in the organization.
• Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to initiate activities independent of instruction.
• Must have mechanical aptitude and be capable of understanding and demonstrating intimate knowledge of the manufacturing processes within the plant.
• Successful record of employee and team development and accountability.
• Successful record of creating a plant environment of teamwork, collaboration, and empowerment.
• Proven leader that consistently models the Pilot 5 Key Behaviors and actively engages the organization to emphasize the desired Change Management to promote these behaviors.
• Team player with proven superior, subordinate, interdepartmental, and peer relationship skills to include the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, with personnel at all levels of the organization.
• Proven planning, budgeting, accounting and cost management skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge and leadership of EHS&S requirements including PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care®
• Significant experience with ISO 9001 management system, preferably with the 2001:2015 standard. Experience with SPC/SQC preferred.
• Personal Computer skills with proficient MS Office Suite experience.
• Must have the physical ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, walk catwalks, handle heights to 100 feet, etc.), to lift, twist and turn up to 50 lbs. (i.e. open and close large valves, inspect equipment, don emergency equipment, etc.) and to expeditiously lead plant emergency evacuations.
