The Disability Screen Office (DSO) is a national, disability-led, bilingual, not-for-profit organization that works with the Canadian screen industry to eliminate accessibility barriers and foster authentic and meaningful disability representation on and off the screen. Our vision is to realize a Canadian screen sector that is fully inclusive and accessible. Our goals include advocating for people with disabilities by influencing policies and removing barriers, educating industry players by providing tools and programming, and creating awareness by fostering authentic representation of people with disabilities in the media.

We are seeking a skilled, experienced and bilingual (English and French) Communications Manager for a part time, one-year contract (possibly renewable) to join our team. The Communications Manager will play a crucial role in developing and executing strategic communication initiatives to raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and promote the... mission and values of the DSO. • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to effectively convey the DSO’s mission, goals, and initiatives to diverse audiences, aiming to increase awareness and engagement.
• Create and manage content for all DSO public-facing products and various communication channels, including website, social media platforms, newsletters, press releases, presentations, annual reports and marketing materials.
• Manage the DSO website, including regular updates to content and a full website re-development in summer/fall 2024.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, influencers, and industry stakeholders to generate media coverage and increase visibility of the DSO’s work.
• Coordinate public relations activities, including media outreach, interviews, and press conferences.
• Research, recommend, and implement measures to strengthen DSO’s branding.
• Monitor and analyze communication metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and make data-driven decisions for improvement.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director, other DSO team members, the DSO Board of Directors and the Marketing and Communications Committee to ensure alignment of messaging and communication efforts.
• Provide communications support for special events, workshops, conferences, and fundraising initiatives.
• Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in communications and recommend innovative strategies to enhance the organization’s outreach and impact.
• Prepare an annual communications budget for Executive Director approval; monitor communications budget on a regular basis.
• Contribute to organizational, operational planning to identify, create, and implement communication initiatives and strategies to support the DSO’s strategic goals
