ACCOUNTANT I

The starting pay range for this position is $19.57 - $25.89 per hour

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Finance and Contracts, has a full-time vacancy for an Accountant I.

Summary: To prepare and maintain within the Purchasing, Contracts Payable and Accounts Payable units, detailed records with responsibility for accuracy in reporting and adherence to controls.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in accounting or business administration. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:One year's experience in accounting or auditing work. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification:None required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:Knowledge of accounting principles and methods and ability to apply and adapt established methods to accounting transactions. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to supervise accounting staff. Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to interpret financial statements and to prepare accurate accounting reports and statements. Ability to establish and maintain

effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.

Responsibilities:

Oversees day to day P-card process match and confirms receipt of invoices within P-card system.

Performs review of duplicate payments report and works with Bureaus to correct.

Reviews and reconciles daily and monthly expenditures and revenue between NHFIRST and Data Warehouse and ensures unposted reports are clean prior to end of day.

Audits Excel AP spreadsheets for valid accounting string of payments for all bureau/districts spreadsheets and communicates with originating bureau/districts when corrections are needed. Place voucher numbers on all invoices $250.00 and lower.

Maintains and uploads JE for Department’s Mechanical Services, Fuel and Bridge inventories.

Prepares adjustment journal methods, verifying for correct application of principles and for mathematical accuracy.

Prepares spreadsheets for Department’s DoIT Telecom and Total Security.

Provides backup for other Accounts Payable staff with complete cross training of duties.

Participation on committees, work groups, task groups and other cross-functional teams as assigned.
