jobs description

What's the role?
With more than 300 days of sunshine each year and surrounded by some of Australia's most stunning landscapes, Townsville, North Queensland is a glorious place to work.
Magnetic Island is just a short ferry ride away, stunning beaches and walks are on your doorstep as well as the Queensland Country Bank stadium where huge sporting events - and international music acts such as P!nk - are already on the 2024 calendar.
The Townsville Bulletin is looking for an all-rounder who is comfortable covering everything from breaking news, court and local council to business, health, Defence, education and everything in between.
Regional newspapers like the Townsville Bulletin allow journalists to cover a diverse range of rounds from Day 1 that bigger publications may not, providing staff with immediate on-the-ground training and ongoing mentoring from esteemed journalists and newsroom leaders right across the country.
This is an opportunity for a go-getter to take their career to... the next level at a company that provides exciting career paths to bigger newspapers in the News Corp fold.
Who are you?
- You will be an enthusiastic and resilient writer, comfortable with getting out in the community to chase stories, take photos and shoot video.
- You enjoy learning about the community, meeting new people and building a network of contacts that will allow you to drive your own news agenda every day by getting the 'exclusives' that sets our newspaper apart from the competition.
- You write with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with flair for the creative when it comes to enticing a reader to engage with your content through catchy headlines and intros.
- You have an understanding of social media and SEO and want to learn about your audience through trends, analytics and tools to help you write more content that appeals to them.
- You have skills (or an interest in developing your skills) in multimedia storytelling using video and audio to deliver captivating visual content to complement your stories for print and online.
- You want to work hard and build your career while also enjoying the camaraderie and fun working in a regional newsroom can bring.
- You hold a valid driver's licence and are willing to work a rotating weekend roster and early/late shifts as required.
